2009 State Tribal Leaders Summit
Governor Bill Richardson and New Mexico tribal leaders met for the first annual State-Tribal Leaders Summit on May 5, 2009 at the Sky City Casino at the Pueblo of Acoma. The newly created Summit, intended to promote dialogue and collaborative government-to-government problem-solving among the state's executive and tribal leadership, was a notable success. The State-Tribal Collaboration Act of 2009 (SB 196*), which requires an annual State-Tribal Leaders Summit, provides the framework for the state and tribal governments to work together to develop successful programs and services to benefit New Mexico's Native American citizens.
